Advanced Training Program

Our kendo club Renshinjuku offers an advanced training program for experienced practitioners aiming for mastery in

this venerable Japanese sword-fighting art. The program is designed to refine technical skills, tactical insights, and

mental resilience. This is achieved through a combination of intensive practice sessions, sparring with like-minded

kendokas, and personal guidance from highly qualified senseis. We place strong emphasis on the philosophical as-

pects of kendo, centering on the principles of respect, honor, and self-discipline. Our goal is to develop not just the

physical capabilities of our members but also to assist in their growth as individuals beyond the dojo. With regular se-

minars and workshops, often led by guest instructors of international renown, we provide a rich learning environ-

ment that is both challenging and rewarding. Our club is a community where tradition and innovation converge, and

where each kendoka has the opportunity to pursue their path to mastery.

General

Our kendo club offers dynamic and professional training suitable for everyone, regardless of age or experience.

Beginners are welcomed into a supportive environment where passion for the sport and respect for one another are

central. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of kendo, with a focus on develo-

ping both technical skills and personal discipline. We aim to create an inclusive community where men and women

can train together and grow in the art of kendo.

Kendo training begins with learning the correct posture and footwork, which is essential for developing good techni-

ques. Then, attention is given to the basic strikes and thrusts with the shinai, the bamboo practice sword. Safety and

respect for the opponent are fundamental values emphasized in every session. As skills progress, participants are in-

troduced to the art of kata, prescribed movement patterns that form the basis of kendo. Our experienced instructors

provide a supportive and motivating environment where each student can grow at their own pace and explore the

depth of kendo.

Beginner's Training

For beginners who want to start practicing kendo, there are a few basic requirements. First, it's important to purchase

a shinai, a bamboo sword, which is essential for training. Sportswear such as jogging pants and a T-shirt are suitable

for the first lessons; special kendo clothing (hakama and kendogi) and protective gear (bogu) are only needed after

approval from the instructor. It's also advisable to become familiar with the basic etiquette of kendo, such as the pro-

per way to sit (seiza), bow, and handle the sword. Search the internet for basic kendo training to get an idea of what

to expect during kendo lessons. Additionally, it's important to train without jewelry to prevent injuries and remember

that shoes and socks are not worn during practice. Practicing kendo requires discipline, respect for tradition, and a

willingness to learn, so an open attitude and commitment are just as important as the physical equipment.
